Curepipe Town Centre around 1970s

Old Curepipe Royal Road 1970s

Curepipe, known as the Town of Light (Ville Lumière), is well known for its cool climate, …and most-of-the-time dull weather due to its high geographical elevation. Summer days in Curepipe is very enjoyable as the temperature is ideal for outdoor activities, be in for shopping, enjoying the municipal garden, or finding something to eat. The town centre follows mainly along the Royal Road and Chasteauneuf Street and is overlooked on both sides by all sorts of shopping stores. The round-about we can still see in this picture however no longer exists and this junction is now open and controlled by traffic lights instead.

Similarly, this view of 1975 reveals nearly the same layouts and settings, but with the joy of quite some vintage cars; the fiat 500, the mini van, hillman minx, citroen 2cv and others that can’t be distinguished… most of these disappeared from our roads.
