Since the French rule till the British Colony there has been quite some very strong and exemplary Churches built throughout the island, and these structures, till now, are as dominantly eye-catching in wherever region they are found. Year of Construction: 1850 (Consecration). This church was actually upgraded from an old french Powder Magazine built somewhere around 1740 which was never used.

Somehow, we should note that even the initial construction was in 1722, the actual architecture is of a much later period. The initial construction of 1722 was at several occasions destroyed by cyclones (two times) and re-constructed and was much smaller. It was promoted to Cathedral in Dec 1847 and consecrated in Aug 1933.
