Curepipe – The Town Centre Viewed from the Air – 1940s

Curepipe Town Centre from the Air

It is fascinating what we can see from this image. The old market in its splendor, the Merven Building not yet constructed, the train station and curepipe line, St Helene Church, a big colonial building (among the lots others) in front of the Curepipe Town Hall, wonder what it could be… Just amazing!

Port Louis – The Central Post Office – 1965

Port Louis - Central Post Office - 1960s

The Central Post Office, even though the image dates the 60s, the Central Post Office dates well before the 1900s and is a structure still standing today. Of course, the environment is no longer the same as were these parking space we can see in the foreground now has been replaced by the motorway.

Port Louis – La Chaussee Street – 1890

Port Louis - La Chaussee Street - 1890s

La Chaussée Street during the Colonial Era, and the Signal Mountain well seen in the background. The bridge visible in the foreground is most probably from the Ruisseau du Pouce, whereby all rain water coming from the mountains flow though this ‘canal’.
