The Taylor Smith Football team back in 1968/69, Champions of the time. Football during the 1950s – 1980s has been one of the most praised sports in the island, both as a sporting activity and as an entertainment for its audience. Stadiums during those times were full and the thrill of the moment was something only those who have lived it will be able to narrate. The Mauritius football history has been marked by many teams, unfortunately, at that time more or less representing a cultural or community movement; the hindu-cadets, the fire-brigades, the muslim-scouts, sunrise, etc among others. And this lead to quite some troubles during certain matches… The famous venue was most of the time the George V (Five) Stadium in Curepipe! Today Mauritius is trying to revive this long gone football spirit, and hopefully this goes for the better! Long live the Mauritian Football!
