Baie du Tombeau Le Goulet 1980s
Found in the north west of the island, the public beach of Baie du Tombeau, more precisely, Le Goulet, dwells aside the estuary of the ‘Tombeau River’, and further nearby there also is the recent Hotel Resort of ‘Port Chambly’. In this picture of the 1980s we can still see part of the remains of the jetty which was used alongwise the bay as base for Catalina hydroplanes. During the second world war, these planes would station there. In the picture below we can see one of the hydroplanes flying over the region of Vacoas during the war. The Beach of Le Goulet is quite well visited also for its segregated location and tranquility. Surrounded by lots of greenries as well as a nice sandy beach, the place is much emphasized by fishermen and local hobbyist with their fishing rods on the nearly rocks on the other side of the river estuary. Since some years, a footpath bridge was constructed to cross the estuary to attend the other side of the river and beach but unfortunately, and probably due to wrong plannification, this footpath bridge is bound to collapse and is a potential danger. Authorities are already considering the demolition very soon… and to be replaced by we don’t know yet. Below is a recent gallery of Le Goulet (2014)
