Port Louis – St Louis Cathedrale – 1890s

Established in 1847, the Saint Louis Cathedrale is among the oldest churches in Port Louis during the English Colonisation. The oldest church nationally speaking however remains the ‘St Francois D’Assise’ found in Pamplemousses, constructed during the times of Mahe de Labourdonnais.

The scene that is offered to our eyes relates to the typical british period and the times where people travelled using horse-carriages among the few means of transport. One thing which is also well admired is how the people of these times were so well dressed with highly elegant clothings and a dress-code that is of a different class (the high ‘bourjeoisie’).
